Things to Watch For
Romero will get a 2nd right chance to maintain interim gold. The 40-year old former Olympian was shot to task by Robert Whittaker in his very last matchup, however he did have his moments. He remains among the most dangerous middleweights on Earth, capable of surprising outbursts of fight-ending violence.
Rockhold is coming off a second round TKO of former WSOF champion David Branch, along with his only loss in his previous seven fights came via flash courtesy of Michael Bisping. A thudding kicker with a elite submission wrestling game, Rockhold presents an intriguing challenge for the aging Romero – and Whittaker too.
Mark Hunt is a staple in any Australian card, since the New Zealander is arguably the region’s biggest celebrity. The slugger will examine No. 9 Curtis Blaydes, who’ll do whatever he could to bring this fight to the mat. In another heavyweight collision, undefeated Tai Tuivasa will look to keep his 100 percent KO ratio intact if he meets France’s Cyril Asker.
You’ve gotta love the matchup between Australia’s Jake Matthews and Li Jingliang. The Chinese fighter would be the UFC’s best hope of creating a native celebrity for the world’s most populous country, and Matthews is precisely the sort of man who can test him.
26-year older Tyson Pedro is young blood in light heavyweight, though his prospects were subdued somewhat in his final outing against Ilir Latifi. This was the Australian’s first reduction, and he will not get a simple bounceback fight. Pedro meets the hard-hitting Saparbek Safarov in what ought to be an explosive affair.

NHL Power Rankings: Stanley Cup Odds Edition

Anyone else, aside from me and Ray Shero, feel like they simply awoke to Christmas morning?
Playoffs start this day, it’s the best time of year, and we’re roughly as jacked up as Mitchell Marner after chugging his second-intermission Red Bull.
Drop the puck already.
Only a sweet 16 teams are relevant, so we present our NHL Power Rankings: Stanley Cup Odds Edition.
Teams are ranked based on some (highly questionable) judgment on their strength heading into the post-season. The Vegas line on their odds of keg-standing from Lord Stanley are labeled below every write-up.

LEARN MORE
1. Tampa Bay Lightning
Has there ever been a larger favourite for prom king? The Lightning strut into the dance like they have the place. Just the second team ever to amass 62 wins, the Bolts completed with a ridiculous plus-103 target differential, just 41 goals better than runner-up Calgary. Tampa dresses three 40 goal scorers. Nikita Kucherov won the Art Ross at a walk, and the Bolts have strong contenders for the Hart, Vezina and Jack Adams. Brayden Point might get a few Selke votes, also that I have two Lightning defencemen in my Norris ballot. The tournament entrance with a mile.
Stanley Cup odds: 2/1
2. Calgary Flames
You’ve no doubt heard the term”there is no simple first-round match-ups” throughout the lead-up to Game 1, but the Flames did themselves so many favour by clinching the abandoned conference. Not only do they draw a Colorado squad that really lost more matches (44) than it won (38) — yay for its drop point! — but when they can look after business quickly, the Flames can kick their feet up and observe Vegas and San Jose pummel each other. For all the hand-wringing over Calgary’s goaltending, remember this: No Pacific playoff group gave up fewer goals than the Flames (227).
Stanley Cup odds: 8/1
3. Boston Bruins
Give the big, poor Bruins home-ice edge as well the border in grit and leadership advantage over the Maple Leafs, convinced. And Bruce Cassidy is one of the best coaches no one talks about. However, Toronto has the upper hand in speed and offensive depth, however high your opinion of Charlie Coyle. The major question is, which Tuukka Rask do we get? If it’s the person who posted seven sub-.900 save percentages in his past 10 looks, Cassidy should recognize it fast and give Jaroslav Halak that the crease.
Stanley Cup odds: 9/1
4. Washington Capitals
Anyone else feel like the hockey world is sleeping about the reigning champs? Sure, their hardworking Round 1 competitor ought to be loose and has nothing to lose, however, the Hurricanes should also be emptied from their standings scale, feeling like they’ve already played two weeks of playoffs. Led by a guy who has won the Rocket Richard so often they may think about renaming the trophy, the Caps dodged the Penguins and Islanders, have the majority of their Celtics roster in tact, and know what it takes to go all the way.
Stanley Cup odds: 12/1
5. St. Louis Blues
Hotter than a pistol, the Blues’ remarkable post-Christmas ascent should strike fear throughout the province of Manitoba. Think Ryan O’Reilly was happy not to attend Sabres locker clean-out day? The Selke threat has watched everyone around him pick up the slack over the previous three months. The defence seems mean, Vladimir Tarasenko rediscovered his touch, and when rookie Jordan Binnington will maintain his .927 save percent, look out.
Stanley Cup chances: 14/1
6. Nashville Predators
Great on the Predators to get out-pacing the Jets down the stretch. The Central Division kings can hang another banner and dodge the bullet that is the third-seed Blues. It’s the same old story in Nashville: The defence is elite, the goaltending ought to be solid enough to win a round or 2, but the offence — rated 19th general — is suspicious. Incredibly, Nashville rolls with the absolute worst power play in the NHL (12.9 per cent), and new guys Wayne Simmonds and Mikael Granlund (one goal apiece) have not provided an antidote. Serious ambitions are tempered by much more serious concerns.
Stanley Cup odds: 12/1
7. Pittsburgh Penguins
I’ve learned long ago: Never bet against a Sidney Crosby team. Evgeni Malkin is healthy, Matt Murray hit his stride in the second half, and the Penguins’ power play and experience are sufficient to make them a danger in any set. Yes, the Islanders carry more momentum to the championship, but the Penguins’ status as a miniature dynasty and continuing contender makes them an edge in electricity.
Stanley Cup chances: 16/1
8. New York Islanders
The Islanders would be the ideal case of a sum exceeding its parts. Goals are difficult to discover (228 total, placing them 21st overall), and yet Barry Trotz’s group has bought into the idea that all they have to do is find the net once more compared to their opponent. As great of a benefit Nassau Coliseum may feel to be, the Isles really registered the exact same number of wins house and off (24). Nobody has analyzed Mike Sullivan’s match plans as closely as Trotz, so if his Jennings-winning goaltenders can keep it rolling, who knows just how many chapters are abandoned in this Cinderella story?
Stanley Cup odds: 20/1

CRIS CYBORG TALKING TO UFC ABOUT NEW DEAL

Former UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is in discussions with the world’s top MMA promotion about a new contract, according to her agent Audie Attar, who spoke to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on his MMA show. Cyborg has just one fight left on her contract after her shocking KO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232, however her and her agents have been clear with the UFC that they are interested in a reunion.
In accordance with Attar, Cyborg expects to fight at UFC 237, which takes place this May in Curitiba, Brazil. The main event of that event will be headlined by UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas carrying on No. 1 contender Jessica Andrade, also it makes a great deal of sense to pump up the undercard using a fighter of Cyborg’s popularity and name value, especially in Brazil. If Cyborg does fight in UFC 237, that will be the last fight on her contract, even as he’s just 1 fight left it without any champion’s clause due to losing the buckle.
The UFC will be smart to bring back Cyborg on a brand new deal. She’s proven to be a bit of a pay-per-view draw in a time when the UFC wants fighters who market shows, and although she won’t be cheap to re-sign, she is shown to be well worth the money. As far as women’s fighters go, there aren’t many more intriguing fighters than Cyborg and there sure aren’t many with much more name worth than she has. The UFC absolutely should re-sign her provided that the request is appropriate.
Although it would be nice to see Cyborg receive a rematch with Nunes seeing like she was on a 13-year win streak before dropping her belt in upset fashion, it is very unlikely Nunes would take that struggle. The rumor is that Nunes wants to battle Holly Holm next for the UFC women’s bantamweight championship, which would leave Cyborg with no next logical competitor. There are not too many featherweights from the UFC right now, but the two which do stand out are Megan Anderson and Cat Zingano. Anderson just beat Zingano in contentious fashion following a flea sliced her attention and the fight was stopped in the first round at UFC 232, but Anderson did catch her hand raised. If the UFC wanted to do Cyborg against Anderson in Brazil, that’s a fight that produces a whole lot of sense.
Cyborg will fight out that last battle of her contract, but in the case she does enter free service, she will have a great deal of suitors. Obviously, Bellator would require a run at her as her ex-Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker is in charge of the company. But I would suspect RIZIN and ONE would likewise take a run at her, not to mention that the WWE, Golden Boy MMA as well as some boxing promotions. Basically, Cyborg will have plenty of alternatives to choose from. However, if her broker has been sincere, she wants to come back to the UFC, and it might be ideal to get MMA fans if that’s what happens.
